The 2023 Ford Explorer: Big, Athletic and Capable
Ford builds some of the world's most popular SUVs and the Ford Explorer is the most popular Ford model of all. We consider the Ford Explorer a large mid-size SUV and families love the fact that it comes with three rows that can seat as many as seven people. Or, if you choose the second row captain's chairs, you will still have room for a family of six. Here are some of the many reasons to take a look at the 2023 Ford Explorer at Ed Kenley Ford in Layton UT.
Engines and performance
The three basic trims come with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower. A Timberline model using that engine can go from zero to 60 MPH in just 6.0 seconds. With the King Ranch, Platinum or ST models, you will have a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 400 horsepower under the hood. The hybrid engine matches a 3.3-liter V6 with an electric motor to generate 318 horsepower. The standard 2023 Ford Explorer comes with a rear-wheel drive system but all-wheel drive is an available option and towing capacity is up to 5,600 pounds.
Fuel economy
With a big family SUV like a Ford Explorer, you could easily expect that you'll have to pay quite a bit more money for gasoline at a time when gasoline is already expensive. But there's very good news on that front. With the base engine and standard rear-wheel drive, the new Ford Explorer can give you about 21 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on highways around Clinton and Clearfield UT, both of which are outstanding for a mid-size SUV. The V6 with rear-wheel drive can give you as much as 26 highway MPG.
Trim levels in the new Ford Explorer
The latest edition of the Ford Explorer gives buyers from Ogden and Syracuse UT a total of eight different trims to choose from:
- Base
- XLT
- ST-Line
- Limited
- Timberline
- ST
- Platinum
- King Ranch
The mid-level Limited model is a good representation of strengths that make the Ford Explorer something special. The turbocharged four-cylinder engine in lower trims is efficient but we think you'll like the brawnier twin-turbo V6 because it's got more power. That engine can tow 5,300 pounds when it's properly equipped. A 12-speaker Bang and Olufsen stereo comes standard and so does a set of 20-inch wheels and genuine leather upholstery.
Interior comfort and cargo
The interior of the new 2023 Ford Explorer is stylish and understated. There's plenty of room in the cabin especially in the first two rows. A special mechanism moves the second row seat out of the way providing easy access to the third row at the touch of a button. The new Ford Explorer for 2023 has more cargo space than many other mid-size SUVs. That translates into 18.2 cubic feet behind the back seats, 47.9 cubic feet with the back seats folded down and a maximum of 87.8 cubic feet when all back seats are folded.
Infotainment technology
An 8-inch touch screen comes standard but you can upgrade to a 10.1-inch display and Big Bang and Olufsen stereo with as many as 14 speakers. Wireless device charging, a moonroof and a household-style power outlet are other available features in the cabin.
